This work is one of three casts made from the three industrial staircase within a building Whiteread purchased in Bethnal Green.
It is more compact form than the other works, and the double staircase arrangment adds to its abstract qualities. The building has been used a synagogue and a textile warehouse and was bombed in 1941.
