He is renowned for his elegant, quietly humorous style, as well as his determination to design for industrial production. When he set up his Office for Design in 1986, he scoured London on his moped looking for industrial workshops that would make up small quantities of objects from ready-made industrial components. This work is from a limited edition of 10 and represents the very beginning of MorrisonÂ’s career. Made from bicycle handlebars, it clearly demonstrates his commitment to modesty and simplicity within the manufacturing processes. This was is the first awarded to the Design Museum by the Art Fund. It marks one of the first steps in the museumÂ’s long-term programme to develop a permanent collection of contemporary British design works.
