Join photographer Jo Underhill in this practical workshop breaking down the fundamentals of photographing your artwork.
Join photographer Jo Underhill in this practical, hands-on workshop breaking down the fundamentals of capturing the essence of your artwork in a photograph and how to effectively document your artwork for a range of different purposes and contexts.
Jo will kick things off by speaking to her own photographic practice, the process that she goes through when capturing an artwork and its essence in an image, and the top tips, tricks, and things to keep in mind when approaching documenting your artwork in this way.
We will then move over to the Nunnery Gallery to put what we have learnt into practice as we breakout and take photographs to document the different artworks in the Bow Open exhibition, exploring together how we may need to adjust our approach when capturing artworks of different sizes, mediums, and installations. Jo will be on hand throughout this section of the workshop to give personal advice and guidance.
We will then have a gentle crit of some of the photographs that people have taken, highlighting the things that went well, any issues that came up, or questions that have arisen.
This workshop isn’t designed to be prescriptive as everyone has their own style of photography which will come through the more you practice! But we want this to be a low-stakes, playful, and experimental space where we can learn by doing and explore different approaches to image taking, under the guidance of Jo’s expertise.
