Amba will play chess with CND
Join Kate Hudson, CND General Secretary, and Amba Malekin-Goneni, MA Art and Politics student, on Tuesday 27th of August at 6:30pm for an informative evening of discussion and celebration over a game of chess.
Amba’s MA has culminated in a dissertation project that focusses on CND as well as the wider anti-nuclear movement. Having a practical art background, the project has developed into creating a ceramic anti-nuclear chess set. Campaigners, family members and organisations have sent her peace cranes, stones and textiles that she has meticulously turned into pieces for the set.
The original CND badges were made out of ceramics, meaning they would be one of the only man made objects that would survive a nuclear war. With this in mind, Amba has used ceramics to create a chess set that is now one of the only forms of game playable after a nuclear war.
The evening will run like an interview, with Kate and Amba speaking as they make their moves. As with all chess games, the outcome is currently unknown - however one thing is certain, it will be an evening of fascinating conversation.
Please note the event will start at 6:30pm, we advise arriving around ten minutes early to get seated. The event will finish no later than 8pm.
