Score making and ways of listening with Felix Taylor, part of In the Footsteps of the East London Group

Felix Taylor invites members of the community to contribute to a sound installation.

Composer and artist Felix Taylor invites members of the community in Bow to contribute directly to the sound installation that will form part of the In the footsteps of the East London Group exhibition at the Nunnery Gallery, opening in October.

What's the difference between hearing and listening? How can we interpret sounds as musical? How can we tell our own personal stories through music and sound? What tools can we develop to translate our personal sound experiences for others to interpret and play with? The workshop will encourage community members to listen to the area in the same way the East London Group observed it. Participants will then learn about how to write and perform their own musical compositions inspired by the East End, using playful and accessible ‘graphic scores’.

Recordings of these pieces will then form part of the final composition and installation playing within the gallery.

Absolutely no prior musical education required!
