Frieda Toranzo Jaeger: A future in the light of darkness

16 March - 26 May 2024
Free to all

Marvel at intricate artworks that blend embroidery with painting by an artist who challenges power dynamics to imagine transformative futures

A Future in the Light of Darkness unveils intricately embroidered multi-panel paintings that blend western art history icons with pre-Columbian Mexican techniques. Through disruptive reinterpretations of familiar motifs, Frieda Toranzo Jaeger challenges dominant power structures and historical narratives, proposing an existence beyond control systems.

Toranzo Jaeger incorporates queer love, vibrant flora, and symbols of corporate power in her work, encouraging critical reflection on alternatives to colonialism and hyper-capitalism. This show marks the Mexico City-based artist's first solo UK exhibition, and offers a unique perspective on the intersection of art, tradition, and societal critique.
