Contemporary painter takes inspiration from handwriting of literary giants.
Mount Stuart unveils its first exhibition in Scotland by Irish artist Oisín Byrne. Delving into the lesser-known Gaelic and Irish book archive, Byrne’s varied and multilayered paintings take a linguistic focus, as the various brush strokes reflect the handwriting of writers’ in the collection, including Flann O'Brien and James Joyce.
The new paintings will be complemented by a live music performance based on excerpts from his notebooks, which he describes as 'sardonic pop music'. A series of recordings and their accompanying video works will also be dispersed throughout the house.
