Voyage into uncanny worlds through the eyes of Paula Rego and Francisco de Goya
This major exhibition explores the uncanniness that is prevalent in the works of both Francisco de Goya (1746–1828) and Paula Rego (1935–2022), in particular highlighting Goya’s unmistakeable influence on Rego through the inclusion of the haunting Goya etchings that remained with Rego until her final days.
Two sets of The Follies (Los Disparates) etchings – previously part of Rego’s personal collection – go on display for the first time beside Rego’s Nursery Rhymes in their entirety, as well as some of the eerie, three-dimensional figures she used as inspiration for her own works.
