Mendick's work disrupts the Sainsbury Centre displays like an unexpected, wild party guest.
Lindsey Mendick challenges traditional ceramics with her darkly comic and confessional art. For the Sainsbury Centre, as part of the ‘Why Do We Take Drugs?’ season, Mendick presents highly personal sculptures addressing social taboos and her own fears.
She explores her dependence on antidepressants and alcohol to manage stress and life's unpredictability, as well as difficult social situations. Her work confronts the stigma around medication use such as antidepressants.
Displayed alongside pieces by Francis Bacon, Leonora Carrington, and global sculptures, Mendick's art is set to disrupt the Sainsbury Centre’s ‘Living Area’ collection like an unexpected, wild party guest.
