Autograph
With a National Art Pass you get
Autograph in Hackney, East London is located in the first purpose-built public space dedicated to diversity in the visual arts.
Founded in 1988 to support black photographic practices, Autograph was originally based in Brixton, from where it led an ambitious programme of exhibitions, publications and events, as well as initiating projects in gallery spaces, festivals, public sites and museums.
The organisation moved to Rivington Place, a five storey building in Hackney designed by award-winning architect Sir David Adjaye, in 2007. At the time, it was the first newly built public art gallery to open in London in 40 years.
The building is Autograph's London showcase for its annual programme of events and exhibitions, dedicated to the exploration of issues of race, identity, representation, human rights and social justice. The collection dates from the 1860s to the present, including work by overlooked artists, new commissions and historical photographs.
