Bagshaw Museum
Explore world & local history at Bagshaw Museum, a Gothic mansion set in 36 acres of parkland and ancient woodland.
Curator Walter Bagshaw's vision was to bring science, nature and a sense of 'the world' to the people of Yorkshire through objects and exhibitions. Bagshaw's vision remains today and the museum encourages people to discover life from Batley and beyond.
From Batley to the world
The museum offers a surprising variety of collections that take visitors on a journey around the world. Start with iconic local institutions Fox's Biscuits and the Batley Variety club, then venture further afield where you could come face-to-face with a Ganges crocodile, try African drumming, or recreate a Victorian seaside day out in one of the five permanent galleries.
Egyptology
The Bagshaw holds a unique distinction for a local museum, a dedicated Egyptological gallery, complete with a replica mummy and a collection of genuine Egyptian antiquities.
Explore the surrounding parkland
Originally a Victorian mill owner's house, Bagshaw Museum is situated in the award-winning Wilton Park, with acres of woodland and lakeside walks, a children's play area and cafe, all free to enjoy.
