Military history

Explore one of the most fascinating times in UK history, in which a series of armed conflicts fought between Parliamentarians (Roundheads) and Royalists (Cavaliers) from 1642 to 1651, bought about seismic change. The Centre offers visitors a chance to explore this dramatic era through interactive exhibits and historical artefacts.

Permanent and temporary exhibitions

Permanent galleries include the Main Civil War Gallery which gives a comprehensive overview of the causes of the conflict while The World Turned Upside Down galleries examine their consequences and look 17th century life more closely. These displays are complemented by temporary exhibitions throughout the year.
