Southwark Park Galleries
With a National Art Pass you get
Two contrasting exhibition facilities in Bermondsey’s Southwark Park Galleries are home to this artist-led, interdisciplinary, contemporary art space.
In 1984, a group of artists living in Bermondsey and Rotherhithe converted a derelict café in Southwark Park into a gallery, founding a space for artists to connect with the local community, and a site for free access to high quality contemporary exhibitions. Over four decades later, the organisation now occupies the original Lake Gallery, and the newer Dilston Gallery, a Grade II listed former church.
Contemporary artists
The galleries have hosted a series of significant exhibitions over the years, featuring internationally-renowned artists including Phyllida Barlow, Martin Creed, Lucian Freud and Shona Illingworth. Don't miss the Annual Open Exhibition every winter - one of the few events of its kind in the UK, it showcases over 400 works in multiple disciplines, highlighting the diverse practices of artists working today.
A place to experiment
Southwark Park Galleries is an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation, and a leading venue for experimental visual art, learning activities and creative career development.
If you need some fresh air, follow the permanent nest box sculpture trail across the gallery’s park surroundings, by the Scottish artist and poet Alec Finlay.
