Whitchurch Heritage Centre
Housed in an old chapel, Whitchurch Heritage Centre uncovers the town's history, from Roman times to present day.
Whitchurch is a unique town in Shropshire, as it is one of the few places in the county that has been continuously inhabited since Roman times. This means that the Heritage Centre can offer insights into a long and fascinating history. A valuable resource for anyone interested in learning more about the history of the region, it offers a mixture of exhibits, activities, and research opportunities.
Clock in
The main exhibition hall celebrates the work of Whitchurch clockmaking firm JB Joyce which was established in the town in 1790. Marvel at the precision and beauty of the exquisite timepieces on display. The hall also houses displays about the town's history from Roman times to the present day.
Local art and music
The Caldecott Gallery celebrates the British artist and illustrator Randolph Caldecott, who once worked in the town, and the Whitchurch-born musician and composer Edward German.
Activities for children
Many of the museum’s exhibits are geared towards children, with hands-on activities such as a Roman dig in the sandbox, brass rubbing and a giant jigsaw.
