Art Funded by you

1) Broken White Band with Green; 2) Broken White Band with Yellow

Sara Brennan, 2009

These two tapestries were spotted by the museum at Collect 2009, the Craft Council's contemporary craft fair. Art Fund Collect was a competitive challenge where shortlisted curators of public collections had just one hour to choose an object for their museum or gallery's permanent collection, ahead of private collectors. Shipley was among the ten shortlisted institutions at the preview. Although they did not purchase these works through the Art Fund Collect initiative, the Art Fund encouraged them to reapply through the Small Grants scheme. These tapestries are fantastic examples of BrennanÂ’s work which represent emotional responses to place. The subtleness of her work is also its strength, the surface is meticulously worked on with different thicknesses of yarns and a restricted colour palette is used to evoke changing landscapes.
