Art Funded by you

1) The Island I; 2) The Island II

Brook Andrew, 2008

These two paintings are on a spectacular scale and are based on images from an album in the Museum's collection. The album contains photographs of drawings derived from important natural history and ethnographic investigations in the 1850s. Andrew wants to bring forgotten representations of Aboriginal people and culture out of archives and into public view. His presentation of the historic image is a contemporary reproduction at first glance. However the treatment of the paintings accentuates scarring and wear, implying something lost, damaged, and rediscovered.
