This small oil sketch illustrates the Impressionist practice of making rapid, intimate studies in the open air.
Paul Delance trained as a painter in Paris in the formal academic tradition. However, he later rejected the formalities of this training in favour of a looser Impressionist style.
With this bequest from Daphne Llewellin of Usk, the sketch joins the strong collection of French paintings held at Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales.
