Burley Gold Buckle and associated copper ally basin fragments

This Anglo-Saxon buckle was discovered by a metal detector in Rutland in 2016. It is only the fourth Anglo-Saxon gold buckle to be found in England, and the most northerly example.
The Burley Buckle is of triangular shape with a large domed head. It is extremely similar to the gold buckle found in 2003 in a royal grave at Prittlewell, Essex, suggesting that it may have belonged to an owner of high status.
An Anglo-Saxon gold pendant and bowl found together with the buckle have also entered the collection of Rutland County Museum, along with the buckle.
