Art Funded by you

Collection of 15 Grand Tour sketchbooks

James Hall, 1821–1822

The volumes form a valuable and unusual diary of a Grand Tour. Hall reports an incident and draws what he sees as events are actually happening. He records, for example, the progress of a coasting voyage from Salerno to Amalfi, with fine pencil sketches of the scenery at frequent intervals. He sketches even as he ascends Vesurius or Etna.
