Born in Jerusalem and based in Berlin, Omer Fast is a video artist whose work deals predominantly with the topics of war and conflict. He created Continuity for dOCUMENTA 13, an exhibition held in Kassel, Germany in 2012. Taking the form of a looped 40-minute video, it eschews the multiple channels characterising FastÂ’s earlier works, and is instead presented in a more traditionally cinematic format on a single screen. As is typical of FastÂ’s technique, Continuity uses actors to present a surreal, disjointed fictional narrative. It tells the story of a German soldier returning from a tour of duty in Afghanistan. Coming home, he finds that the once-familiar domestic setting now feels alien, as strange anomalies begin to appear reflecting the nightmares he experienced during war.
