This is the first work by Lowe to enter the Welsh national collection. Lowe moved to Pembrokeshire in 1959 and taught History of Art at both Aberystwyth and Swansea universities. The artist, Maurice Sheppard has donated 9 other works to various collections in the UK and was a student of Lowe's. There was a close connection between the two artists with Sheppard frequently visiting Lowe's studio in Pembrokeshire.
