Ink Blue Series 2

Felicity Aylieff, 2010

© The artist

Felicity Aylieff is one of the leading ceramicists in the UK. Since 2006 she has spent various periods in Jingdezhen, the so-called ‘Porcelain City’ in China, working on large-scale, highly sculptural, even architectural works such as this one. Ink Blue Series 2 is a collaborative piece made from wheel-thrown porcelain and decorated with brushed marks in cobalt and iron oxides. It forms part of the artist’s ‘new Ming’ series, which consciously references and reinterprets the blue and white vases that are the quintessential ‘Chinese’ vase of Jingdezehn. The work is representative of a particular current trend in contemporary ceramics of global exchange.
