Leopold Mozart, father of Maria Anna Mozart, virtuoso, aged eleven, and of J.G. Wolfgang Mozart, composer and master aged seven
Jean Baptiste Delafosse, c. 1770

This etching compliments the collection of portraits of musicians at the Royal College of Music, in its portrayal of a young Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, aged seven, performing with his father and sister. There are several known versions of the subject; this etching is after a watercolour by Louis Carmontelle. Correspondence indicates that Wolfgang's father, Leopold Mozart, purchased a number of impressions of the image to use as gifts when the family toured Europe.
