Medieval casket

Unknown artist, late 14th century

Decorated with secular subjects. Sides show scenes of lovers talking and embracing beneath trees. Inner lid is gilded and painted with the Annunciation. Inside is a painted cloth showing John Talbot, and his wife Maud kneeling at the foot of the cross. This may have been inserted in the 1840's by Pugin or Thomas Willement.
