Pair of Torah finials & pair of cups and covers
Various, 1–2) c. 1780; 3–4) 1592
Four works: 1-2) Pair of Dutch filigree Torah finials and 3-4) pair of Dordrecht cups and covers presented by Lady Marjorie Gilbert through the American Friends of the Art Fund. This pair of Torah finials were exhibited at the Anglo-Jewish Historical Exhibition in 1887 and their staves are inscribed with the words 'P.Salomons.Esq'. The Dordrecht cups were made by one of the most highly regarded Dutch silversmiths of the 16th century and the engraving upon their finials represents Saint George impaling the dragon. The Torah finials are part of a travelling exhibition called 'Princely Treasures: European Masterpieces 1600-1800, from the Victoria and Albert Museum' until 2014.
