Portrait of Juliana Waltersdorff as Mrs Cornelius Kortright of Hylands, Essex

Jens Juel, c. 1800–1802

The Danish sitter, Juliana Margaretta Waltersdorff (1769-1819), married Cornelius Hendrickson Kortright circa 1790. This portrait depicts the sitter as a motherly figure in her matron's cap which was a normal indoors costume for a married woman at that time. It is in an oval carved gilt frame of the period.
