Art Funded by you

Shaw Hall, Lancashire, from the North East

Anthony Devis, 1767

This watercolour is one of the earliest known works signed and dated by the artist. It is a fine topographical study in full watercolour and is inscribed on the reverse in the artist's hand. It was clearly intended as a specific and accurate topographical record of Shaw Hall and its gardens, showing the hall, ancillary buildings, and (to the right of the group) the stables. Now only the stables remain.
