One of two landscapes from a set of eight executed as illustrations for Sir Walter Scott's 'The Provincial Antiquities and Picturesque Scenery of Scotland' (1819-1826). A wild coastal view whose rough sea was analysed by Ruskin in 'Modern Painters'. The grant is for two paintings, the other one is 'Linlithgow Palace'.
