The Ashwellthorpe Triptych

Master of the Legend of the Magdalen, c. 1520

Norwich Castle Museum & Art Gallery, Norwich

The centre panel represents the Seven Sorrows of Mary, while the wings show Christopher Knyvet of Ashwellthorpe, Norfolk, and his wife Catherine as donors, both accompanied by their name-saints and identified by their armorial bearings. On the backs are figures in grisaille of Saints John the Evangelist and Barbara.
