The Family of Eldred Lancelot Lee

Joseph Highmore, 1736

A portrait of Eldred, who died in 1734 hangs on the wall. His widow Isabella sits surrounded by their ten children. One died in infancy and is borne aloft by angels. Family possessions are included: the pet squirrel, 2 mastiffs and the family jewels. The arms of both the English and American branches of the family are carved on the contemporary frame.
