This work depicts a tank emerging from a sunlit forest glade.

The functional form of the tank is disguised by the machine’s camouflage – the natural forms and colours of nature have been appropriated by a machine as a form of concealment. Snell uses different techniques to paint the landscape and the tank to create a highly illusionistic painting. Snell’s interest in military machinery began whilst she was a student living and working in Norwich. The number of British and American military establishments in the East Anglia means that such sights are not uncommon.
