Mrs Forsdyke worked at the Whitechapel Art Gallery in the 1950s as assistant to the Director Bryan Robertson. She forged relationships with a number of artists during this time who later came to be represented in her collection. Angel-like form in the sky (main illustration) came with a separate sheet inscribed with 'Christmas greetings and good wishes for the New Year from Sidney' and two other messages from Cynthia Nolan, the artist's wife from 1948 to 1976 and Jinx, Nolan's step-daughter.
