Edward Bawden’s work is the cornerstone of the Fry Art Gallery’s collection – an assortment of 20th-century works drawn from the members of the Great Bardfield group of north-west Essex artists.
Endeavoring to tell the artistÂ’s story as fully as possible, the galleryÂ’s holdings span the length of his career. Cornish Well is a bold painting using few colours which emphasise the landscape depicted. Bawden's watercolours were often produced on holidays and show a different side of the artist. The Printing of the Sunday Times is a particularly strong example of the artistÂ’s well-known commercial linocuts.
