In one of SchwittersÂ’ earliest paintings from the Ambleside years he depicts Silver Howe, a house built by classical archaeologist William Gell in around 1798 before being redeveloped.
This painting was offered to the museum by the artistÂ’s close friend, the late Harry Bickerstaff.
