‘No 684 L Fold’ is a large-scale, wall-mounted relief sculpture from Rana Begum’s Fold series.
The works in the series are linked by the complex geometries which enable them to manipulate, fold and collapse space in a visually engaging way. Begum has described these works as having ‘a common language of colour, form and pattern’ that ‘transcends nationality, class and gender’.
Begum was born in Bangladesh and moved to Britain when she was eight years old. She trained at Chelsea School of Art and the Slade School of Art in London.
In 2017 the Sainsbury Centre staged Begum’s first solo museum exhibition. ‘No 684 L Fold’ joins the centre’s nationally significant Abstract and Constructivist Collection.
Provenance
The work is being acquired from the artist's gallery and has only been owned by the artist. It has never been exhibited.
