Klinghoffer was best known for her portraits, and this work is a striking and unusual depiction with its bright colours and unflattering portrayal of Orovida. The aim of the Ben Uri Gallery is to promote Jewish art as part of Jewish cultural heritage. This work by a Jewish female artist complements the works by her contemporaries like Mark Gertler, David Bomberg and Jacob Epstein already in the collection.
Provenance
Agi Katz purchased painting from Sotheby's twelve years ago.
