These are epitomised by Empirical Jungle whose labyrinthine form has caused parallels to be drawn between it and the Hellenistic sculpture, 'Laöcoon and his Sons'. The form of this sculpture derives from Deacon's modelling and manipulation of the clay with his hands. Following the artist's clay maquette, each piece is hand-built by collaborators in the workshop. After firing, Deacon colour drips glaze pigments until there are several layers to form a semi-transparent surface.
