The jug is modelled and moulded in the form of an elegant boot, with a siren handle at the front and a grimacing grotesque mask forming the aperture.
It is painted in blue, orange and manganese. A new style of maiolica painted in a rapid, sketchy style came into fashion in Italy from the 1540s onwards, which was perfected by the workshops in Faenza.
