Unpainted geometric grisaille glass of this kind is rare from the medieval period.
It could have been used in a Cistercian abbey where figurative stained glass was prohibited. However it could have been used in other churches where a less costly, simpler or lighter type of decorative glazing was required. The design relies heavily on the strongly over-lapping lines of lead and uses coloured glass sparingly.
