The coins were made by the ancient British tribe of the Durotriges who lived in Dorset before the Roman invasion of AD43. It is unusual to find ingots of this large size and shape which suggests a religious context for this hoard, especially when the coins were ritually marked.
Provenance
Discovered by a metal detector user on the Isle of Wight and declared Treasure in 2004.
