The expansive site of the Almond Valley Heritage Centre is a hub of West Lothian history and an interactive family activity space.
Situated across the river Almond, its attractions include the historic buildings of Livingston Mill, a working mill, and the Mill Farm, which is home to a troop of friendly animals including rare and common breeds of horses, sheep, goats, cows and birds. There are also various indoor and outdoor play spaces for families such as the Paraffin Works play area beneath a giant umbrella, imaginative outdoor play spaces dotted around the fields and an indoor soft play, as well as train and tractor rides.
Inside the museum itself is a range of displays and activity spaces with a collection of objects and artefacts exploring West Lothian social and industrial history, focusing on areas with a heritage of oil production and shale mining. The museum's collection relating to the shale oil industry in the surrounding Scottish area has been recognised by the government as having national importance.
From wandering the fields and exploring the historic buildings, to petting the animals and pouring over objects in the museum, there?s plenty for the whole family to enjoy at this historic centre.
