Y Gaer is an exciting and inspirational new cultural centre in Powys, which combines Brecknock Museum & Art Gallery and the new Brecon Library.
Local history
The Brycheiniog Gallery focusses on the different parts of Breconshire and their special features. Fascinating items shed light on the social, domestic and industrial history of the region surrounded by mountains, including the Brecon Beacons.
Refurbished gallery
The Grade II* listed former Shire Hall has seen the restoration of the Assize Court, the opening of the subterranean cells and the provision of redesigned galleries, which contain nationally important museum collections and works of art.
Versatile spaces
The unique architectural development, blending old and new, gives access to education and community rooms and event spaces for poetry, music, reading and art, with peaceful areas for contemplation. The Library has a fabulous range of books for all ages, plus Wi-Fi and computer facilities.
