Discover a contemporary artist who journeys to the past to understand our present.
Inspired by paintings of Mount Vesuvius exploding in Compton Verney's collection, contemporary sculptor Emii Alrai blends volcanic history, mythology, research and nostalgia to examine the present moment. In a series of immersive rooms, Alrai's sculptural works nod to historic voyages popular during the Romantic era.
By combining different textures, images and voices through sculpture, drawing and installation, Alrai transforms the galleries into a theatre of the past.
