Catch a rare glimpse into the lasting impact of Post-Impressionism on British modernism.
Focusing on two ground-breaking exhibitions from 1910 and 1912 – where painter and art critic Roger Fry first introduced Post-Impressionism to the British public – this major exhibition explores one of the UK’s most significant collections of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist art.
Featuring iconic works of art by Paul Cézanne, Vincent van Gogh, Pierre-Auguste Renoir and Camille Pissarro, Inventing Post-Impressionism presents paintings and works on paper from both the Charleston collection and a significant selection from the Barber Institute of Fine Arts.
Additionally, the Spotlight Gallery will showcase a painting by Cézanne, which was once owned by economist John Maynard Keynes and was famously left in a hedge after a trip to wartime Paris.
