Delapré Abbey is a 900-year-old historical building near Northampton with beautiful gardens, offering guided tours, exhibitions and events.
A former Cluniac Nunnery turned country estate, the building was opened to the public in 2018 after extensive restoration works. Filled with a turbulent past, tales of the Abbey are told across five zones, where you will experience eccentric architecture and unexpected views as you soak up the historic atmosphere.
Intriguing Rooms
In the quieter Medieval Rooms you can learn more about the women who lived in the Abbey for nearly 400 years. After that you can delve into a Victorian family saga in the Bouverie Rooms, named after the family who resided there from 1764-1943.
Hands-on history
Families are welcomed to get a sense of the history at Delapré with hands-on interactive displays and activities such as firing a bow or creating a crest. Visitors are encouraged to play, explore and touch objects in the historic rooms.
Tranquil garden
Set in 500 acres of parkland, there is plenty of space to explore, or you can just relax in the formal walled garden, complete with a herb plot and modern sculptures from renowned artists.
Café
The Orangery has views over the south lawn, ideal to just drop in for a quick refuel, or you can book for Afternoon Tea, Bottomless Brunch, and Sunday roasts.
