Durham Cathedral offers a variety of experiences for visitors. Take a guided tour to delve deeper into the cathedral's history, or explore the cathedral independently, and take in its architectural details and spiritual atmosphere. You can also attend a service or participate in special events held throughout the year.

Explore the Museum

Durham Cathedral Museum is made up of three unique spaces, each featuring displays from the cathedral’s historic collections.

Walk through the medieval Monks’ Dormitory, with displays including an impressive collection of early stonework, before descending into the Great Kitchen to discover the treasures of St Cuthbert.

Cathedral and museum visiting hours: 10am-4pm Monday-Saturday, 12 noon-4pm Sunday

Exclusions and safety measures

Durham Cathedral's facilities for visitors including the museum, cafe, shop and visitor desk are closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year's Day and Good Friday.

As a working cathedral, sometimes access for visitors is disrupted at short notice due to events and services. Please check the cathedral's website for the most up to date information.
