Heckington Windmill
With a National Art Pass you get
Head to the Lincolnshire countryside to visit Heckington Windmill, the world’s only working eight sail windmill, now an award-winning visitor attraction.
Over 20 metres high, Heckington Windmill was first built in 1830 with five sails. Though more than the usual four, it wasn't until the sails were damaged by a storm in 1890 that the full eight sails still in place today were installed.
Now fully restored and Grade I listed, the windmill is home to a visitor centre that tells the story of the Heckington Windmill family and the history of breadmaking. The windmill itself is still in operation, and has now ground flour for nearly 200 years.
Cakes from the onsite bakehouse, made using the windmill's own flour, are served in the Miller?s House Tea Room, while beer brewed using traditional methods is available from the award-winning 8 Sail Brewery. Visitors can also explore the gardens and well-stocked shop.
