Historic house

Originally known as Whitehill, the neo Palladian villa was designed by renowned Scottish architect, James Smith ,in the late 1600s. The house boasts an impressive collection of fine art, showcasing the tastes of the Dalrymple family who owned it for generations. Keep an eye out for the unique Chinese sitting room, a delightful example of 18th-century design.

Explorie the grounds

The Newhailes estate encompasses over 80 acres of parkland, offering a variety of ways to connect with nature. Take a leisurely stroll along the woodland walks, keeping an eye out for local wildlife. For a touch of history, explore the Shell Grotto, a charming folly constructed from thousands of seashells. Children will love the Weehailes adventure play park, while everyone can enjoy a refreshing treat from the Stables Café.

Newhailes offers a host of family-friendly events, including festivals, musical performances, dog and car shows, and a monthly Farmers’ Market.

Did you know?

Newhailes played a significant role in the Scottish Enlightenment. The resident Dalrymples were prominent figures in the movement, and their home was a hub for discussion and debate.
