Located in the historic Bagenal's Castle, the Newry and Mourne Museum explores the intriguing story of the region, from its prehistoric beginnings to the modern-day.
A journey through the ages
The museum's collection boasts a diverse range of artefacts, documents, and photographs. Discover prehistoric tools used by the earliest inhabitants of the area. Exhibits also explore the unique experiences of living in a border region.
Historic building
Built in the 16th century, the Bagenal's Castle was originally a fortified residence, however it’s exact location was lost for a period and the building even served as a bakery in the 19th century. Rediscovered in 1996 when the site was sold, the castle has been sympathetically restored, with drawings from a survey of the castle completed c.1570 allowing archaeologists to uncover many of its original features.
