With a National Art Pass you get
An elegant Georgian villa dating back to 1723, Ranger's House in Blackheath houses sumptuous collections of silver and jewels, paintings and porcelain.
Built in the early 18th century, the house was originally a private residence before becoming the official home of the Ranger of Greenwich Park. Since 1986 it has been cared for by English Heritage and houses one of the most extraordinary collections of medieval and early modern European art to have been made by one person.
The Wernher Collection
Amassed in the late 19th century by Sir Julius Wernher, the collection includes Renaissance paintings such as the Madonna della Melagrana from Sandro Botticelli's workshop, Dutch Old Master paintings, French tapestries and Sèvres porcelain. You will also find items of 18th century furniture and medieval items that fascinated Wernher which he described as ‘splendidly ugly’.
Immersive art experience
The house retains its original Georgian features, providing a beautiful backdrop for the collection of over 700 artworks displayed across the house's grand rooms,
Beyond the house
While the art collection is the main attraction, Ranger's House also offers beautiful gardens to explore including the rose garden located behind the house. Additionally, the house's location on the edge of Greenwich Park provides visitors with the opportunity to enjoy the vast green space and its historical attractions.
Did you know?
The Greenwich Meridian Line actually passes through the grounds of Ranger’s House. This historic line, marking zero degrees longitude, played a pivotal role in establishing Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) as the world's standard time reference.
